Day 2, Lydden to Dover

It’s cold, and windy, and raining this morning and we’re just about to go for breakfast. More later…

Later that day…

Well it’s raining and that would be ok BUT…

due to some issues about ferries to Calais France NOT accepting foot passengers for some reason? we elected to take a bus to Dover to get there early to sort out this problem

Last night lodging in Lydden
Waiting for the bus in Lyddon

We made it to Dover, (it’s only 7km by bus)

Checked into the Travelodge, And…

Have been running around to several places to try to book tickets for the ferry as foot passengers. All to no avails. Seems like we might need to buy a car to get on!

The tourist office suggested to go to the terminal and talk to the ferry agent directly.

On our way to the ferry terminal, WIND and Rain, and trucks, LOTS of trucks.

Long story short, we got there and it was closed until 13:20. So…

We sat in the waiting area and I tried repeatedly to book tickets on-line, which is the only way you can buy tickets!

I spent 10 minutes each time, filling out all the information on their website and all seemed to work out. UNTIL…

When it came time to pay, the credit card company sent me the death-knell

They sent a 6 digit security verification code to my phone, which is of course now using my French eSIM card with a different French phone number!

Phoned the credit card company, who since put a block on my credit card due to “suspicious activity” …bla bla bla…

Anyway…the Ferry agent finally opened the office, only to tell us she couldn’t sell us tickets. We have to do that on-line. ARGH!!!

Went to Dover castle instead, to cool off.

Up the stairs and to the right
The castle
WIND!
The view from the top

Ok! So…by now my phone battery died and we head back to the hotel to rest and recharge, both; us and my phone.

More to come…

Later that evening…

I talked to someone at the credit card company and after 19 minutes of switching between being on hold and being asked security questions, I finally got it sorted out and got the “hold” on my credit card removed.

I charged my phone and we were chilling out at the hotel for a bit. I tried several times, several different credit cards, and several different sites to book tickets and one finally worked. I’m just hoping now, that it’s not a scam and we get to the terminal to find out.

So we wrote some post cards and went out for supper to an interesting looking pub almost right across the street, called “The White Horse”

The White Horse Pub, before it got really busy.
