Paris to VYR to Nanaimo

We’re flying home today

Four weeks ago, on our flight TO Paris there was a couple seated in the row directly in front of us, who, right after takeoff, fully, and I mean FULLY! reclined their seats without so much as a courtesy notice. AND they left them reclined for the ENTIRE 9 hour flight except for, maybe, the 10 or 15 minutes when the crew served meals. The seats are already so close together that just getting into or out of my seat is like I’m wearing it! And getting into or out of the seat feels like you’re wearing it, putting it on or taking it off!

So what are the chances that the very same couple would be leaving Paris on the very same day, in the very same seats as four weeks ago!?

Yes it’s Murphy at his best, showing off his law, or it’s god messing around with us with her twisted sense of humour;

You people! Honestly! You’re so easy to rattle! I don’t hear the trees complaining, and they’ve got way more reason to than you!”

Look closely! Read CAREFULLY! I NEVER noticed this when I booked the tickets.

Anyway, it was a tough 9 hours!

We landed in Vancouver, passed through customs, got on the Skytrain to Waterfront, went for coffee and lunch at a nearby restaurant, and went for 30 minute walk along the waterfront to pass the time waiting for the ferry. We got home and ordered take-out from the Indian Food restaurant. There’s no place like home.

These are some random pictures of our last few days in Paris that didn’t seem to fit anywhere else in the journal;

Stone walls of the chocolate shop in Giverny, made of limestone, chalk, and fractured flint, The walls not the chocolate
A fascinating book I thought I’d buy when we got home but should have bought in the bookstore in Paris because sadly, “Not available in English or in Canada.”
The walk up to Montmartre. Now I know why they call it Sacré-Coœr
Paris streets are clogged with traffic! I don’t know why anyone bothers to drive. Bicycles are way faster at getting you anywhere.
The narrow wooden spiral staircase down from our apartment. One slip and it’s all over til you hit the bottom.
A gluten free restaurant specializing in gluten free food, all except the crepes, (sigh!)
A bronze reminder in the sidewalk that “The Camino doesn’t start in Sarria!” (It’s along story)
The Paris gardens. A fascinating place to walk through.

The End
