With the new hullo high-speed ferry direct to downtown Vancouver it’s no longer necessary to pay $400 for a 12 minute flight to YVR. That’s not even taking into consideration the “recommended” 2 hour arrival at the airport prior to boarding, nor the logistics of getting to the airport and home again via taxi or a helpful neighbour, or pay for parking.
Easier, cheaper, and actually faster, to walk the 30 minutes to the hullo ferry terminal, pay $19 fare, arrive at Pacific Place in downtown Vancouver 70 minutes later, walk 5 minutes to Waterfront Station, and take the Skytrain ($5) directly into Vancouver International Airport, (YVR), to catch our flight, any flight.
This year we booked with Air France because they offered the only direct, non-stop, flight to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG), avoiding lengthy lay-overs or missed connections.
Air France was a little more expensive than flying with the other airlines and the flight is 9 hours sitting in the same seat, but the convenience of a direct flight more than offset the cost.
We didn’t have to get up at 0400, or endure a lengthy layover in Toronto or Montreal, and we only had to endure one boarding, struggling to find room in the overhead compartment for our backpacks.
