Day 6; Guines to Audenfort

Our room last night in Guines. The room was
nothing special and living out of a backpack would be a lot nicer if the accommodations were. It’s not that the room was bad, it’s just…well for $150 I expect a little more.
Still smiling and having a good time, (apparently) though I don’t remember us having this
much fun, rain and drizzle most
of the day
Entering the dark forest
The base of a tree decked out in a cool looking fungus all around
Taking a short cut along the road saved us 2km. It’s not cheating if the alternative doesn’t make sense.

Standing in front of a mound of turnips.

Checking out a field of heather which turned out not to be heather after all, just some really pretty weeds I guess
This and the next two pictures go together: a beautiful scene of the French countryside, left, middle, and right.
Exiting the forest with the village of Licques in the distance. We stopped at the church and had a thoroughly interesting conversation with a women about its history, its significance to the Via Francigena and rebuilding of
it after destruction in the war.
One of the curators of the musée d’argricole in Licques. A lack of longshoremen forced Catharine to pick on one of the museum’s curators
Centre-ville de Licques. Not much going on on a Sunday afternoon, but we did find a bar to get in out of the rain to warm up and have a hot coffee.
Tonight we’re staying at an old mill that’s been converted to a family owned hotel. There’s no restaurant so we’re having supper from the supplies we carried and a bottle of wine that I also carried, for 18km!
There wasn’t any place to stay in Licques so we had to hike an extra 3km to get to the mill in Audenfort

Did mention that I slipped in the bathtub last night? Trying to get out and probably cracked a couple of ribs, or worse!

Well, maybe I didn’t crack them, but it sure hurts and there’s a big bruise!
