Went to the pub just around the corner for a morning coffee after leaving our apartment accommodation, the pub owner said he does not make food and suggested we go to the boulangerie down the street to buy some food and bring it back to eat in the pub and he will make us a coffee to go with it.

This spot is where we came down from the high point, the view is North west and looking at the village of Escalles in the centre of the photo. There are a lot of “day hikers” along the trail now, their cars parked in that village.AComing down from the high point on the trail.We pass dozens remnants of the Nazi occupation of France all along the coast. The only way I can think of to keep from getting sunburnt, put on my jacket and improvise with a bandanna A beautiful beach but there are constant reminders of the nazi occupation every 100 metres. Concrete bunkers and gun placements in the sand dunes.A long, and hot day of hiking. But the refreshing beverages at the end of the day are almost always worth it.
Now back at our “Hotel Room”, (such as it is!) I know it would be hard to classify this as a hotel in Canada but Wissant is a beach town and an obvious tourist destination. Go back to the picture of the beach and imagine that beach running in both directions as far as you can see, and the huge sand dunes behind you, and hardly anyone around. Yeah, that’s the draw to this town.
And it’s Friday afternoon.
Tomorrow we turn South and inland, away from the ocean and into a more rural countryside, and hopefully away from the tourist traps.
